Yen Chun
Ms.
Chun is a well-recognized China expert in consulting, business
negotiation, cultural practices and etiquette, and Chinese language
training.
She
is currently Senior Advisor of Community Outreach Programs for the
Confucius Institute at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In that
capacity she works on marketing and public relations for the
Institute. She runs mandarin classes for business community as well
as Chinese language Immersion Sports Camp for youths in the summer.
Ms. Chun served as advisor to Harvard Graduate School of Education
and marketed their on-line education programs in China.
From 2000 to 2005, Ms.
Chun served as China Business Manager at JAIMS and was responsible
for planning, managing, and supervising the development and
implementation of the language and cultural components of the China –
focused MBA program (CHEMBA), a joint program between University of
Hawaii and JAIMS.
Since
1980, Ms. Chun has been a Director of Uniket Limited – a Hong Kong
based consulting company specializing in China business. In that
capacity, she served as corporate advisor and consultant to numerous
Fortune 100 U.S. corporations investing in China. The companies she
worked with included Hughes Tool Company (now Baker Hughes), FMC
Corporation, Occidental Petroleum, Queen’s Medical Center and
Hawaii National Bank. She negotiated and concluded a technology
transfer of drill bit manufacturing in China – a profitable US$200
million project. She negotiated and concluded sale of pesticide for
FMC Corporation totaling $198 million, setting the highest record
sale in agricultural chemical. She provided briefing to U.S.
corporate executives prior to their China trips on negotiation
skills, Chinese culture and etiquette as well as Chinese delegations
visiting USA.
Ms.
Chun was Senior Consultant of the China Consulting Services
department at Touche Ross International (now Deloitte & Touche)
from 1985 to 1987. She served international clients and assisted in
their business negotiations with PRC companies. She traveled
extensively to China and throughout Europe developing business. She
served as keynote speaker of seminars on “Doing Business with
China” in London, Oslo, Milan, Turin, The Hague and Paris.
Ms.
Chun was born in Beijing to American citizens, grew up in Hong Kong
and educated in USA. She speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin
fluently. Ms. Chun received her MBA degree from University of
California, Berkeley.
Ms.
Chun has been very active in community services. She has been
serving as a trustee for the prestigious Soong Ching Ling Foundation
in Beijing and Shanghai since 1982. She works closely with the
Foundations on cultural and educational projects. She is also
Director of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Founding member and Vice
President of the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Hawaii Foundation, Director of the
Hong Kong China Hawaii Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Chun assisted the
State of Hawaii establish sister-state relationship with Guangdong
Province, and, Oahu establish sister-island relationship with Hainan
Island in the 80s.
